The phrase 'hidden gem' is overused in golf, but Garnant Golf Club near Swansea really is a jewel in the crown of South Wales that still remains largely undiscovered by anyone outside of the local area.
With high quality USGA spec greens and tees, this undulating championship course is almost 7, 000-yards from its back tees and offers sensational views of the Brecon Beacons.
The clubhouse is being updated this Summer (2012) with a Sports Bar and outside decking area, which makes it a must-play venue for any golfer visiting the Swansea area.
This superb course was constructed in 1995 on the site of a former open cast mine, and the holes are named after local mineral workings like Wernos, Gelli Ceidrim and Wheal Morgan.
The Par 3s are all excellent, with water in play on the 164 yard 6th and picturesque 171-yard 17th, while the driveable downhill Par 4 6th is a challenge not to be missed.
Societies and visiting golfers are very welcome at Garnant GC and a wide range of different packages is available.
