Founded in 1921, this parkland course at Abernant, which sits about a mile from the town centre of Aberdare, produced the great Dai Rees. The Welsh Ryder Cup player had his first lesson at the club, where his father served as the professional for 15 years, and his mother was the stewardess. The course, which is famous for its mature oak trees, provides an excellent test of golf while the scenery is surprisingly pleasant. Aberdare attracts lots of visitors, including several societies which return on a regular basis.
